Coffee hull in the diet of dairy heifers: nitrogen balance and microbial protein synthesis R. Bras. Zootec.
Souza,Alexandre Lima de; Garcia,Rasmo; Cabral,Luciano da Silva; Pereira,Mara Lúcia Albuquerque; Valadares,Rilene Ferreira Diniz.
It was evaluated nitrogen compounds and microbial protein synthesis in heifers fed diets containing coffee hulls (0.0; 8.75; 17.25; and 26.25% of dry matter) replacing ground corn concentrate at the following levels of coffee hulls in the total diet dry matter: 0.0, 3.5, 7.0 or 10.5%. It was used 24 crossbreed heifers (7/8, 15/16 and 31/32 Holstein-Zebu), which were distributed in a random block design made up accordingly to the weight of the animals. Spot samples of urine were colleted aproximatelly four hours after morning feeding and were used to estimate microbial protein synthesis by using urine purine derivatives. It was not observed effect of coffee hull levels in the diet on total nitrogen intake (160 g/day) and nitrogen excretion in the urine...

Evaluation of feeding supply and forage cactus processing for lactation cows R. Bras. Zootec.
Vilela,Márcio da Silva; Ferreira,Marcelo de Andrade; Azevedo,Marcílio de; Farias,Iderval; Torres,Luiz Carlos Leal; Guimarães,Amanda Vasconcelos.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the manner in which diet is supplied and spineless cactus forage is processed on intake, nutrient digestibility, milk production and composition, concentration of plasma urea nitrogen (PUN) in the milk urea nitrogen (MUN) and production of microbial protein in Holstein cows in lactation. Eight cows (453 ± 75.8 kg) yielding 14 kg milk/day were allotted to a factorial design, with two manners of cactus processing (knife-chopped or forage machine) and two diet supplies (separate concentrate or total mixed ration). Intakes of dry matter, organic matter, neutral detergent fiber and total digestible nutrients were lower when cactus was knife-chopped. Digestibility, milk production and fat and protein yield did...

Forage cactus associated with different fiber sources for lactating Sindhi cows: intake, digestibility and microbial protein production R. Bras. Zootec.
Saraiva,Carla Aparecida Soares; Gonzaga Neto,Severino; Queiroz,Maria Fernanda Soares; Henriques,Lara Toledo; Saraiva,Edilson Paes; Albuquerque,Rômulo Pontes de Freitas; Fonseca,Vinicius de França Carvalho; Nascimento,George Vieira do.
This experiment was carried to evaluate the effect of forage cactus with different fiber sources (elephant grass hay [EGH], corn straw [CS], hay of cassava shoots [HCS], fresh sugarcane bagasse [FSB], and hydrolyzed sugarcane bagasse [HSB]) on intake, apparent digestibility and macrobiotic protein production of cows. Five cows with 265 kg average body weight, 4.95 kg average daily milk yield and 5.22 kg 4% fat-corrected milk yield were randomly allocated to a 5 × 5 Latin square design. The animals fed cactus associated with CS, EGH and HCS showed higher intake of DM and nutrients. However, regarding the digestibility, diets with sugarcane bagasse showed higher digestibility compared with those with CS and hay. For microbial protein, the excretion of purine...

Current experiment evaluated the effect of replacement of full corn meal by dehydrated ground cassava roots at levels 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% in experimental supplements for lactating cows grazing on irrigated and fertilized tropical pastures. Ten Holstein cows were divided into two 5 x 5 Latin squares, with average initial 150 days of lactation, milk production 22±3.30 kg day-1 at the beginning of experiment and initial body weight of 603±65 kg. Cows were maintained on pasture consisting of elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum, Schum) cultivar Pioneiro, intercropped with Tifton 85 (Cynodon nlemfuensis), fertilized with 600 kg nitrogen per hectare year-1. There was no significant difference (p > 0.05) between the substitution levels of corn meal...

Microbial protein synthesis in young steers fed with grass silage and extruded corn Chilean J. Agric. Res.
Barchiesi-Ferrari,Claudia; Anrique,René.
Microbial protein synthesis is essential to meet protein requirements in ruminants. The aim of this investigation was to evaluate the effect of incorporating extruded corn (Zea mays L.) into the ration of young steers fed with grass silage on microbial protein synthesis (MPS). Twenty young steers in metabolic cages were used for supplying food. The treatments consisted of combinations of extruded corn (EC) and ground corn (GC) EC-10 (10% EC-30% GC); EC-25 (25% EC-15% GC) and EC-40 (40% EC-0% GC). These foods constituted 40% of the ration (DM-based) and the remaining 60% was grass silage. The MPS was calculated through the excretion of purine derivatives (PD) in the urine, using total collection of urine. The inclusion of a higher percentage of extruded...

Four steers in individual paddocks with Marandu grass (B. Brizantha) in 4x4 square design were used to evaluate sunflower crushed supplementation in pasture-grazing animals on nitrogen balance and microbial protein synthesis. Supplements at 6 g kg-1 body weight comprised corn, soybean meal, and mineral and soybean meal substituted at proportions 0, 20, 40 and 60%. Diet contained averages 6.79, 6.96, 7.10 and 6.87% nitrogen respectively for substitution levels 0, 20, 40 and 60%. The inclusion of sunflower crushed (SC) increased nitrogen intake and fecal excretion of nitrogen while providing a positive balance. Animals’ plasma urea concentration supplemented with SC was 28.13% lower than that of supplemented animals without SC. SC inclusion did not change...

Substituição de uréia por cloreto de amônio em dietas de bovinos: digestibilidade, síntese de proteína microbiana, parâmetros ruminais e sanguíneos - DOI: 10.4025/actascianimsci.v31i3.5938 Animal Sciences
Castañeda, Roman David; UEM; Branco, Antonio Ferriani; UEM; Coneglian, Sabrina Marcantonio; UEM; Barreto, Julio Cesar; UEM; Granzotto, Fernanda; UEM; Teixeira, Silvana; UEM.
